Getting to and from school safely

As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.

Keep our school community safe by:

  • driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
  • being a good role model
  • never calling your child from across the road
  • using the safest place to cross the road.

For parents and carers of younger children

Discuss with your child how to be safe when:

Also talk about and practise:

  • safe travel routes
  • plans for when unexpected things happen
  • what to do in wet weather.

When dropping off / picking up your child, please

  • PARK the car and MEET your child at the SCHOOL GATE
  • DO NOT double park.
  • Obey " No Standing" signs
  • Allow your child to get in and out of the car from the pedestrian side, not the road.
  • Ensure that if your child needs to cross the street to enter the school grounds they either do so at the marked pedestrian crossings on Mons Avenue or Endeavour Street, or at the CHILDREN CROSSING sign on Bennett Street.
  • Do not Park in the School Grounds without prior permission.

Free Bus travel from the home address is currently available to all students in

  • Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.
  • Year 3 - 6 children who live outside the 1.6km radius from the school.
  • Year 3 - 6 children who live inside the 1.6km radius and more than 2.4km walking distance from the school.

It is the parent's responsibility to note bus timetables and departure points.

Details of the morning and afternoon school bus route and times is available from the school office. For more information on the bus routes and timetables please contact: Sydney Buses 131500

Each afternoon teachers supervise the boarding of buses outside the school.

The Principal has the power to withdraw free bus passes from students whose conduct is considered unsatisfactory.

When a student transfers from the school, his/her bus pass must be handed to the school office.

Make sure your child

  • Knows the shortest, safest way home.

  • Where possible, walks to and from school with a friend.

  • Is aware of "Stranger Danger".

  • Always uses the marked crossing or traffic lights to cross roads where possible.

Subsidised school travel

Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.

  • The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
  • The School Drive Subsidy may help towards the costs of driving children to school if you live in an area where there is no public transport.
